Although
born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and having lived several places before
the age of five, Brian D. Hawk has spent most of his significant
life in the beautiful mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. It
is there that he grew up and went to school, until graduating from
Clyde A. Erwin High School in June, 2001.
Brian
has been an art enthusiast since an early age, ever since he could
hold a crayon, in fact. Throughout his adolescence, he developed
his skills and tastes, but it wasn't until he began attending the
Savannah College of Art and Design in the fall of 2002 that his
true artistic potential and vision began to emerge. At SCAD, he
received a strong background in drawing, color, and design,
as well as extensive study of art history, from which he began to
draw on the influence of the great masters whom he admired.
Unsure
of what field in which he wished to major, Brian chose Visual Effects
almost on a whim, but it seemed as if fate had it in store for him
all along. He grew to love the field, and realized how much of his
life and previous passions led him to the choice. He was born for
this kind of art. SCAD's Visual FX major gave him an extensive skill
set, including Digital Compositing, Shader Development, FX Programming,
Texturing, Modelling, and Lighting. However, Brian's true passion
lies in Particle Simulations and Procedural Effects, particularly
with his program of choice, SideFX Software's Houdini.
Brian
possesses a strong personal aesthetic and visual style which directly
corresponds to the conceptual framework which he attempts to express
in all of his art. It is these ideas and inspirations which drive
him to create visually stimulating and emotionally driven images
that are capable of evoking a strong response from viewers.
Having
graduated from SCAD in June of 2006, Brian has returned to Asheville,
where he eagerly prepares for the next step in his life's journey.
When not glued to his computer chair creating high-end digital effects,
Brian enjoys reading whatever he can get his hands on, training
in and teaching martial arts at the Center for Martial Arts in Asheville,
and practicing writing about himself in the third person.
